Banbhore GIS Mapping & Heritage Survey

Government of Sindh — Archaeology Department

To nominate a 2,000 year old port city as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you first have to map every stone of it.

The challenge

Produce accurate, authoritative GIS maps and a full field survey of the Banbhore archaeological site for the Government of Sindh Archaeology Department, the geospatial evidence base for its UNESCO World Heritage nomination.

What we built

We delivered a GIS mapping and survey package for the Banbhore site: georeferenced base maps, digitized excavation zones and structures, layered thematic survey data, and cartographic outputs prepared to UNESCO documentation standards. Field survey data feeds directly into the map layers so the record stays accurate and current.

Outcomes

  • A georeferenced base map and digitized feature set for the Banbhore site
  • Layered survey data prepared as evidence for the UNESCO World Heritage nomination
  • A repeatable workflow so new field survey data updates the maps directly
  • Cartographic outputs to government documentation standards
